Women and Children

Following the collapse of the
Government in 1991 in Somalia and the the birth of Republic of Somaliland , the country was left with tremendous and many
challenges and dire situation with no way out. Suffering frequent droughts and famines, Somaliland is among the bottom five of 170 countries listed in the 2012 Human Development Index (HDI value is strikingly low at 0.285). About 40 percent of the population lives in extreme poverty: Such harsh start made children are often rural, malnourished, out of school, child brides or child laborer’s. Moreover, they tend to have illiterate mothers who have been denied access to productive resources because they are too poor to afford such necessary milestone. Women had to cope with difficult life situation and tend to turn away from education or work. This led to multiple issues for women such has not having the proper knowledge on family planning, being victim to abuse and to continue to practice harmful cultural habits such as FGM
Thanks to great progress the govt of Somaliland made in the last two decades , in which education
became free of cost and outlaw women abuse and FGM. Now it is estimated 90% of todays children are attending schools and 74% of girls are literate. Tawaasul Org has taking part in combating such issues and will continue to do so .

Why we Choose To Help.

Strive For Progress.

Somaliland is not an internationally recognized state therefore weak economy and limited opportunities for foreign trade and investment have stifled the government’s capacity to provide services to its approximately four million residents.

Somaliland has a gross domestic product (GDP) of about $2 billion, most of which it receives in remittances from Somalilanders working abroad. All these factors didn’t stop this nation from achieving impressive progress in terms of stability, education and peaceful democratic political environment .
